Question

My child is behind grade level. Will he be placed in a class with younger students?

Answer

No. One unique aspect of our school is that students are unaware of their peers' academic levels. Teachers work individually with each child to support their progress, and when students are together as a class, they focus on activities that everyone is proficient in. This approach allows them to build strong peer relationships without embarrassment or self-consciousness.

The 2024- '25 School Year began September 14, 2024 and will end June 5, 2025. We currently meet eveey Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 12:00pm in Boonton, NJ.

Question

What curriculum does LHA use?

Answer

We exclusively use the Abeka curriculum, but due to our teaching methods, textbooks are rarely utilized. For example, Abeka does an excellent job teaching English grammar rules, but it can be tedious. To keep students engaged, we follow a cycle of one week in the book and the next week practicing through creative writing. At least, that’s the plan—it usually ends up being one week in the book and two weeks of creative writing!

Question

Can I enroll my child for only one subject.

Answer

Yes. You can enroll your child for as many or as few subjects as you would like.

Question

What are the NJ Laws that govern homeschool?

Answer

In New Jersey, the Legislature under the compulsory education law (N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25) has permitted children to receive “equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school,” including the home. See the NJ FAQs for Homeschooling:https://www.nj.gov/education/safety/nontraditional/faq_homeschool.shtml
